Cork Oak is an evergreen oak native to the Mediterranean and northwestern Africa. Well adapted to hot, dry climates it has a wide umbrella shaped canopy of strong branches and makes an excellent screen or shade tree. Valued commercially in the production of cork, its gray fissured bark renews itself after harvest. Long lived and adaptable to a variety of soil types including clay, loam and sand.
