Lemon Lime Prayer Plant is a tropical perennial grown for its striking foliage and known for folding its leaves closed at night as if in prayer. Native to Brazil, Asia and Africa it is popular as an indoor plant, remaining smaller in size and ideal to place on a bookcase, shelf or small table.
To keep a Prayer Plant thriving pay attention to temperature, light and water. As a tropical plant, they are sensitive to cold, harsh sunlight and underwatering. Although somewhat tolerant of low light, Prayer Plants do best with some bright indirect light. They also do well with flourescent light such as in an office setting. One thing Prayer Plants can be a little sensitive to is water that has been treated with chemicals or chlorine. Be sure to use water that is free of chlorine, softeners and hard minerals. Instead, use room temperature rainwater, neutral well water, distilled or filtered water, or bottled water. Aim to keep their soil slightly moist but not soggy and remember to use a pot with drainage holes at the bottom. Fertilize monthly or twice monthly with any good quality house plant fertilizer at half strength during the growing season. Stop fertilizing and reduce watering frequency in fall and winter when growth slows.
