Agave sisalana ‘Mediopicta,’ also called Variegated Hemp Agave is native to the Yucatán Peninsula in Mexico where it is has traditionally been grown as a source of sisal, a hemp like fiber used for making rope and fabric. This variegated selection is particularly choice with beautiful striped leaves and a toughness that is lacking in many other variegated plants. Although intolerant of hard frost, it is very well adapted to heat and sun. Unlike many other ornamental varieties, it can acclimate to an exposed location with all day sun. Cold hardy to 25-30F.
