Water Hyacinth is a free floating water plant that is native to South America. Lush and fast growing, it has attractive lavender flowers and glossy green leaves that rise above the water. Perfect for koi ponds and container gardens where it can be kept in bounds. Water Hyacinth is invasive in non-native habitats and should not be introduced to the wild. To prevent oxygen depletion in your water garden, it should not be allowed to grow completely over pond surfaces. Excess plants can be used as compost and are naturally high in phosphorus and nitrogen.
