Buddha’s Hand is also known as Citron and is grown for its beautiful many fingered fruits. The fruit, which start out green and ripens to yellow, consists only of interior pith and a fragrant exterior rind which is used to impart flavor to infusions and sauces. It can also be candied or used to make marmalades and syrups. In the landscape, Buddha’s Hand can be used as an evergreen screen and is ideal for a kitchen garden. Although it performs best in full sun, it is intolerant of harsh summer heat, freezing winters and drought making it well suited to a container or a protected location. Prefers well drained, acidic soil.
