‘Giant Fuyu’ Persimmon is a larger variety of Fuyu, the most popular variety of non-astringent persimmon in Japan. As a non-astringent fruit, it can be eaten while crisp and still firm. The fruits are coreless and seedless and are ripe when the skin becomes deep orange. Wonderful sliced thin and served fresh with cheeses and nuts, they can also be dehydrated or cooked and pureed to be added to baked goods like cookies and breads. If a soft fruit is desired, they do soften eventually with time. Ornamental in the landscape, they form a wide spreading tree with a rounded canopy. Drought tolerant once established, they are a good fruit tree choice for the waterwise landscape.
