Native to the Sonoran Desert and Baja California, Rock Fig forms a fat root caudex that makes it popular as a bonsai specimen. In its natural cliffside habitat, the roots wind around rocks in fused webs that hold it securely and act as moisture reserves for the plant. In the wild it can become a small tree, but in a container it will remain quite small and can be pruned to size. Ideal as a specimen plant in a container. Rock Fig is adaptable to full sun in coastal climates, but prefers partial shade inland.
