Valley Oak, a Central California native, is one of the largest oaks and also one of the most picturesque and graceful. Forming a large open canopy of draping branches, its deciduous green leaves are deeply lobed and its plump acorns are a favorite source of food for wildlife. Typically found growing in the rich soil of floodplains and valley floors, Valley Oaks prefer silty loam, clay loam or sandy clay loam soils. Long lived and drought tolerant once established.
