An upright grower with variegated pink and purple sword shaped leaves, Electric Pink Cordyline has a vase like canopy and forms a short trunk as it matures. The vibrantly colored leaves contrast dramatically with blues and grays in the landscape. It stands out beautifully in borders, containers and raised planters. Cordyline is a New Zealand native that has some tolerance to drought once established. With evergreen ornamental foliage, it’s a great way to add year round color to the landscape. Adaptable to full sun in cool coastal climates but preferring protection from harsh afternoon sun in the inland Central Valley climate. One thing to watch with Cordyline is a sensitivity to flouride which is found in some water systems and can cause brown leaf tips. In these instances, use of collected rain water or distilled water may be preferred.
