Tricolor New Zealand Flax forms a grass like mound of narrow variegated leaves. Attractive year round, the foliage has a central green stripe with cream margins and red edges. Drought tolerant in coastal conditions, it appreciates regular water and some protection from hot inland sun. Reported to be tolerant of poor draining soil. Adaptable to full sun in cool coastal climates but preferring protection from harsh afternoon sun in the inland Central Valley climate.
