Native to California and Baja, Coastal Live Oak thrives in Mediterranean climates where it tolerates both heat and drought. Forming a rounded umbrella shaped canopy of strong branches with a spreading open habit. Coastal Live Oaks are long lived and hardy with individual trees living as long as 250 years. Evergreen leaves and thick bark make it one of the most fire resistant oak species and a good choice for the firewise landscape. It is also one of the only oaks that thrives in coastal growing conditions. Often found growing on hills and slopes, provide well drained soil to encourage disease free roots.
