Kiwi Cordyline is a popular selection that has beautiful lemon lime variegated leaves with hot pink edges. With maturity, Cordyline forms a small trunk giving them a palm like appearance. Drought tolerant in coastal conditions but will grow more robustly with moderate water. It maintains its vibrant leaves year round, creating interest in the landscape when other plants are dormant. Adaptable to full sun in cool coastal climates but preferring protection from harsh afternoon sun in the inland Central Valley climate. Cordyline is adaptable as a houseplant with adequate light and is also a great selection for containers and patios. One thing to watch with Cordyline is a sensitivity to flouride which is found in some water systems and can cause brown leaf tips. In these instances, use of collected rain water or distilled water may be preferred.
