Violette de Bordeaux Fig is naturally dwarf in size. It has small to medium sized very dark purple fruit and produces two crops per year. It has a sweet rich flavor and is excellent for fresh eating, drying and making preserves. This is one of the more frost hardy varieties and it is wonderful for growing in containers or small spaces. Figs are considered drought tolerant for fruit trees, however they do need regular deep watering especially during their first year when they are establishing roots. In addition to size control, regular pruning helps ensure consistent crops as figs produce on new wood.
