Japanese Blood Grass is a heat loving ornamental grass that is native to Japan and Asia. Spreading by rhizomes, it forms a spreading clump of broad green blades tipped with red. Attractive near water features and striking in an Asian Garden. ‘Red Baron’ is a lower growing cultivar which is reported to be less invasive than the plain green leaved selection. Very effective planted in containers or tubs, it looks especially dramatic when back lit by the sun. Leaves are semi-evergreen and may go dormant in cold weather. In this case, cut back old growth and fresh leaves will appear in spring.
