A perfect agave for growing in a container, Lucky Crown Century Plant is also known as Kissho Kan or Kichiokan marginata. Thought to be a Japanese cultivar of Agave potatorum, it is a favorite of collectors for obvious reasons. In Japanese, its name means Lucky Crown and it forms a crown shaped rosette of variegated leaves with beautiful red spines. Sun loving and easy to care for, it is drought tolerant and excellent for hot climates. Watch for leaf splits as a sign that it has been over watered. To prevent this from occurring, feel the leaves before watering. If they are firm, no water is needed. Kissho Kan is frost sensitive below 30F and should be brought into a greenhouse or sunroom in winter for protection from frost and cold weather wet conditions.
