Monstera deliciosa is sometimes called Swiss Cheese Plant because of the deep cuts in its mature leaves, which are referred to as fenestrations. Despite its exotic appearance, Monstera is easy to care for and is an excellent houseplant for beginners. It requires moderate amounts of bright indirect light and once to twice weekly watering. Monstera is native to Central America and is epiphytic which means it attaches to trees and larger plants with aerial roots that emerge along its stems. To encourage upright rather than sprawling growth, Monstera should be staked or given a sturdy moss pole to attach to.
To keep Monstera thriving pay attention to temperature, light and water. As a tropical plant, they are sensitive to cold and harsh or hot sunlight. Allow the first few inches of soil to dry before rewatering, and avoid allowing the plant to sit in water at the base of the pot.
