Congo Red Philodendron is an adaptable easy care indoor plant with beautiful glossy dark green foliage tinged with red. While some indoor plants can be notoriously particular about care, Congo Red is easy enough for beginners and beautiful as well. It prefers bright diffused light such as a north or east facing window. For a south or west facing window, be sure to move it back far enough that it doesn’t get leaf burn from direct sun. Maintain slightly moist soil by watering whenever the top 2″ of soil are dry. Avoid watering with chlorinated or softened water as these chemicals can be damaging to a plant native to the rainforest. Repot yearly and fertilize with a good quality houseplant fertilizer during the warm growing season.
