Blue Cape Plumbago is an old fashioned favorite with several excellent characteristics including drought tolerance and prolific airy blue flowers. One of it’s best traits is non-stop flowering during the growing season, often making it one of the only things in bloom when other plants are taking a pause. It forms a rounded mound that can be allowed to spread and climb or can be trimmed back in the winter if a more compact shape is preferred. Delicate looking but tough, Plumbago is non-fussy about shade or sun but will flower more prolifically in brighter light. Native to South Africa, it is versatile in the landscape and can be used as an accent, container plant, background plant or ground cover and is also an excellent choice for a slope.
