Scarlet Butterflyweed is a tropical milkweed that puts on a vibrant color show with deep red and yellow flowers that are attractive to beneficial pollinators and butterflies. Semi-deciduous, it dies back in cold weather and grows throughout winter in warm climates. To discourage disease and late migrations in wild Monarch populations, it is best to cut this plant back in late fall if it doesn’t die back on its own. This will also encourage healthy new growth in spring. Tough and adaptable to a waterwise landscape, it will bloom best in sun.
