Silver Torch Cactus is native to high mountain regions in South American where it grows in clumps of tall, narrow singular columns. Its striking appearance comes from the flexible white hairs that grow over its spines, resembling a soft, furry coat of hair. During flowering, red tubular blossoms appear up and down the trunk, attracting hummingbirds and other pollinators. Plant in cactus mix, watering weekly in the summer and reducing to once every five weeks in winter. During hard freezes, styrofoam cups can be used to protect the tops from cold damage. To prevent rot during dormancy, keep plants dry during cold weather. Excellent in containers. May be grown indoors if bright light can be provided.
