Tricolor Prayer Plant is native to the Amazon rainforest and has some of the most stunning foliage of any tropical indoor plant you can grow. Related to Maranta and Calathea, it closes it’s leaves at night as if in prayer. Happiest in bright diffused light, avoid placing it in hot sun or where harsh drafts from heating or air conditioning vents might dry its leaves. Keep soil lightly moist but avoid waterlogged soggy roots. A peat based indoor potting mix amended with perlite or pumice will help retain moisture while also allowing aeration. Prayer Plants can be sensitive to chlorinated or treated water, so you may want to use distilled or bottled water especially if you notice browning leaves. Other alternatives include rainwater or neutral well water, preferably at room temperature to avoid shock. Although Tricolor Prayer Plant can be a little particular in its care requirements, it’s one of the most beautiful of all indoor plants. It’s also non-toxic and safe for pets.
