Totem Pole Cactus is a slow growing smooth skinned columnar cactus that grows with bumpy irregular protrusions resembling carved faces. Oddly geometric in appearance, it looks stunning as a specimen especially when grown with other xeric species or against the backdrop of a wall. Branches sparingly and eventually forms a tall, wide clump. Prefers porous well drained soil and protection from rain in winter. Young columns can be protected from damage with styrofoam cups used as cold caps in freezing weather.
Of note: The last listing photo was taken of a stunning specimen in the 10 acre Desert Garden at the Huntington Botanical Gardens in San Marino, California.
