Native to the Eastern United States, the Tulip Tree is large, showy and excellent for creating shade in an open space. With a broad, conical canopy of deciduous foliage, it puts on a colorful display of yellow cup shaped flowers in the spring with leaves that turn yellow in the fall. The state tree of Kentucky, Tennessee and Indiana, its hardwood trunk can reach 4-6 feet in diameter and was used by Native Americans and early pioneers in the construction of dugout canoes. Give this tree regular water and plenty of space and it will reward you with fast growth and stately beauty.
