Native to Mexico and Central America, Ponytail Palm is recognizable by its swollen trunk and Lorax like tufts of long grassy foliage. Carefree and drought tolerant, they make excellent container specimens and are popular in the xeric landscape. Small Ponytail Palms are often sold as houseplants but to reach their full potential they are best grown outdoors. Heat loving and resistant to drought once established, they prefer deep infrequent watering and quick draining soil.
