Boutin Blue Foxtail Agave is a “soft agave” that is gentle to the touch with pliable leaves and smooth edges, making it appropriate to plant near walkways and in planters that receive close foot traffic by people and pets. Boutin Blue forms large luminous blue rosettes that will eventually colonize into wide cluster. Or if desired, its offsets may be removed to form new plants elsewhere. Foxtail Agave gets its name from the tall bushy spike of flowers it displays at the end of its life, but if allowed to cluster, new plants will replace any that fade. Agave attenuata thrives in full coastal sun but will appreciate afternoon protection in harsher inland climates. Boutin Blue is a tropical agave that is sensitive to cold climates. Frost protection should be provided at temperatures below 28F.
