Nolina longifolia is native to Mexico with trunking form, beautiful long weeping leaves and a lifespan that can extend for centuries. Closely related to Beaucarnia and Dasylirion, Nolina are sometimes referred to as varieties of Yucca and indeed are in the same family as Yucca and Agave. All of these related plants are beautiful, drought tolerant, low maintenance and long lived. Nolina is slow growing but stunning when mature. It makes a statement as a specimen plant grown among cactus and agaves and requires no irrigation once established.

Spirit of Anzac Grevillea has finely dissected leaves and a unique silver gray color with red flowers that appear off and on throughout the year. Like other Grevilleas this tough beauty is drought tolerant, pest resistant and easy to maintain. Excellent for cut flowers and attractive to beneficial pollinators and hummingbirds, Grevillea prefer well drained soil and should only be given phosphorus free fertilizers, if any.

Agave geminiflora has narrow dark green leaves that are flexible and not particularly sharp for an agave. As the plant matures, the leaves will number in the hundreds and form an attractive cascading sphere which looks particularly striking planted in a large container. Not known for producing offsets, it is maintenance free as well as drought tolerant. Agave geminiflora is known to have two slightly differing forms, one with plain smooth leaves and another with fibrous white hairs curling back from the leaf margins. At the time of this writing, we have both forms but recommend coming in person to view our current selection.

Lomandra ‘Platinum Beauty™’ forms graceful mounds of perennial grass-like foliage. Versatile, waterwise and tolerant of a variety of conditions including sun and shade. Ideal along pathways, in difficult spots, in containers and on slopes. In addition to being maintenance free and impervious to pests, one of its best traits is that it does not reseed and is not invasive in the garden. On close inspection, you may notice the narrow leaves appear cut at the tips. This is a normal characteristic of the plant and is less noticeable once it matures. Platinum Beauty™ requires little to no fertilizer and does not require pruning unless you wish to cut it back in the spring.

Agave parryi truncata forms a flower-like rosette of beautiful compact leaves, often referred to as “Artichoke Agave” for its resemblance to an artichoke. An extremely desirable variety, Agave parryi truncata is tough, beautiful and tolerant of drought and sun. Like all agaves, at the end of its life cycle, which lasts many years, this plant will form a tall tree like bloom stalk before dying. By this time, it will have produced several clonal offsets to replace itself. Plant in well drained soil, cold tolerant to 10-15F.

Congo Red Philodendron is an adaptable easy care indoor plant with beautiful glossy dark green foliage tinged with red. While some indoor plants can be notoriously particular about care, Congo Red is easy enough for beginners and beautiful as well. It prefers bright diffused light such as a north or east facing window. For a south or west facing window, be sure to move it back far enough that it doesn’t get leaf burn from direct sun. Maintain slightly moist soil by watering whenever the top 2″ of soil are dry. Avoid watering with chlorinated or softened water as these chemicals can be damaging to a plant native to the rainforest. Repot yearly and fertilize with a good quality houseplant fertilizer during the warm growing season.

Tricolor Prayer Plant is native to the Amazon rainforest and has some of the most stunning foliage of any tropical indoor plant you can grow. Related to Maranta and Calathea, it closes it’s leaves at night as if in prayer. Happiest in bright diffused light, avoid placing it in hot sun or where harsh drafts from heating or air conditioning vents might dry its leaves. Keep soil lightly moist but avoid waterlogged soggy roots. A peat based indoor potting mix amended with perlite or pumice will help retain moisture while also allowing aeration. Prayer Plants can be sensitive to chlorinated or treated water, so you may want to use distilled or bottled water especially if you notice browning leaves. Other alternatives include rainwater or neutral well water, preferably at room temperature to avoid shock. Although Tricolor Prayer Plant can be a little particular in its care requirements, it’s one of the most beautiful of all indoor plants. It’s also non-toxic and safe for pets.

Variegated Rubber Tree is sumptuously colorful with vibrantly splashed foliage in shades of red, burgundy, green, pink and cream. Lower maintenance and easier to care for than many other ficus varieties, it prefers soil that is lightly moist and should be watered when the top 2″ are dry. Typically it should be watered once per week in the warm growing months and every two weeks in winter. Although it does not require as much light as a Fiddle Leaf Fig, it still prefers bright diffused light conditions. Protect Rubber Trees from scorching sun and harsh drafts or sudden temperature shifts, such as in front of air conditioner or heating vents. Trim to size if you prefer that they remain more compact, but avoid skin contact with it’s milky sap as it is toxic to people and pets.

Fiddle Leaf Fig is one of the most iconic and popular indoor plants and it’s easy to see why. With their tall vertical habit and glossy green leaves, they’re the ideal statement plant for home or office. With proper placement and care, they’re easy to keep happy.
Fiddle Leaf Figs like bright diffused light. For example, a spot near a sunny window with a sheer curtain is ideal. Once you find the perfect spot, rotate the pot from time to time to encourage even growth. Protect them from scorching sun and harsh drafts or sudden temperature shifts, such as in front of air conditioner or heating vents and plant them in well drained soil to avoid waterlogging their roots. During the growing season, water when the top 1″ of soil feels dry. In cool winter months, water a little less. Although Fiddle Leaf Figs don’t need fertilizer during the winter, during the growing months they feed fairly heavily to maintain the growth of their large leaves. Utilize any good quality houseplant fertilizer or look for one specifically formulated for Fiddle Leaf Figs.
